Desktopple Pro 1.1!

Yes, it’s finally here!

Desktopple Pro 1.1 has been released and it brings a lot to the table. In fact, so much has changed that I seriously considered calling it Desktopple Pro 2.0.

One of the feature requests that I kept getting over and over was that Desktopple Pro should be a Preference Pane instead of a Menu Bar item. So many people asked for this that I simply couldn’t ignore it. So Desktopple 1.1 is officially a Preference Pane. All of the settings are conveniently located in the System Preferences. This also means that if you don’t want the menu bar icon there, you can get rid of it to save precious space.

I’ve also improved some things and added a brand new feature: Window Cleaning. With Window Cleaning, Desktopple Pro watches you work, and if you haven’t used an application in a while, it hides the app and all its windows. This is a really great way to reduce onscreen clutter. (Tip of the hat goes to SpiritedAway, an app that had this feature but is sadly no longer available.)

You can check out the new release here: Desktopple Pro 1.1

Of course, it’s a free upgrade.

I’ve also switched Desktopple Pro to eSellerate for its licensing (the reasons why I’ll cover in another post). Those who have already purchased Desktopple Pro will have to update their license (instructions are provided in-app), but this is, as I said, free.

I also want to give a sincere thanks to the beta testers who pointed out bugs, found flaws, and argued with me when they thought things should work differently. It’s really hard to find good testers, and this group was fantastic. So, big thanks to Jamie Fehr, Dave McCollum, Bob McCune, Rick Yeager, and Ray Slakinski!

And that nasty memory bug? Yeah, that’s gone too. :)

I’ve been a long time deskshade user and I’m currently trying out Desktopple Pro. There are a lot of features that I like. The window cleansing the autohide features are great. I was very excited except for one feature that your missing. I currently have my desktop background change every 15 minutes or so. Deskshade updates the hidden image along with everytime when the background is updated. It would be great if Desktopple would do the same thing. Keep up the great work.

This ap is so cool that Apple will buy you out (nicely I hope). I do a lot of presentations and always nervous of the unintended desktop, so for that alone I’ll be buying!!!

I enjoy this program so much I bought it. One issue I am fighting off is that it hides the un-active windows before the 10 minutes I have it set at. In short in about a minute, windows start hiding.
Am I not setting something that I should be?
    Thanks again,
    Chuck

I would love to use Desktopple because of the window cleaning feature, but!, if there is no exclude list it’s not that usefull. SpiritedAway has such a list, even accessible through the menu and!, it’s still available at www.macupdate.com. I keep an eye on Desktopple in the meanwhile. Cheerio, Moritz

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I’m extremely happy that Desktopple Pro has been so well received!

    Paul: I’m looking into that!

Chuck: Yes, I’ve noticed some “irregularities” in the was that Desktopple handles the Window Cleaning. In specific, if you flip back and forth between windows a lot, some windows get hidden when you don’t expect them to. I’ve got that fixed, and it will appear in the next update.

Moritz: I will probably add an “exclusion” list as soon as I get a chance. That’s a been a top request.

  7. Moritz Zimmer Says:

Cool! If you do that, you might add a checkbox to hide the desktop if not used for the same time as well ;) I really love “Spirited Away”, thank you, showing it to me ;)

  8. August Says:

Not sure I understand what you mean by that Moritz. Could you explain further?
