Desktopple 1.3, Now Leopard-compatible!
It took a while, but we’re finally happy to announce a Leopard-compatible version of Desktopple Pro, version 1.3.
There are lots of minor improvements and fixes here, and one big new feature: “Cover Sets.” Cover Sets allow you to define different “covers” for your Desktop. Switching between them is then just a quick trip to the menu bar. It’s great when you need one backdrop for screenshots, one for presentations, or one for everyday use. Or, just go crazy and let your mood choose your background.
I’ve also used this version as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for some great features in the pipeline. While you won’t see the changes in this version, they’ll speed things along for the next version.
If you’re not already the proud owner of a copy of Desktopple, we’re offering a Macworld Special: buy before the end of Macworld 2008, and get 30% off!
And for those of you waiting for a Leopard-compatible version of Server Siren, that’s tops on my list. Expect news on that front very soon.

Cool.
Sometimes, when I see the desktop, when I click on icons nothing happens. The icon does not get selected. Drag & Drop also won’t work then. Hide/unhide of the desktop restores the functionality. Any idea?

Thanks for mentioning that, Rainer!
We didn’t notice this during beta testing, but we’ve had a couple of reports other than yours. I’ve got a few ideas, and I’m working on a solution. Look for a fix in the next few days.

I’m happy to see the release of the Leopard-happy version. However, I’m experiencing the same issues as Rainer on a MBP with OS 10.5.1.
Thank you, Rainer, for the hide/unhide workaround; I was about to uninstall. I would really hate to give up using this great app until a fix arrives.

I’ve updated Desktopple Pro to version 1.3.1, and it should resolve the Desktop issue. To get it, simply choose “Check for Updates…” from the Desktopple Pro menu bar item, and let it take care of all the hard work for you.
Enjoy!

Great news for the Desktopple users, but … how about the Leopard version of Server Siren?

Hey, Fred!
As mentioned in the post above, yes, indeed, Server Siren for Leopard is coming soon.
Thanks!

I’m running DeskTopple 1.3.1 and checked for updates. I was told they is an update available and downloaded it, selected “install and relaunch” and it just hands at that point. Running Leopeard with all known fixes.
Thanks!

I got it. I downloaded the latest version from the web site and it installed fine. Sorry about the grammar above, early here.
Thanks!

Hello, I’m using Desktopple free and there’s a bug in Leopard.. whenever you use Spaces, and swtich to a different space, the desktop reappears. Setting Desktopple to be shown in “All Spaces” doesn’t fix this behaviour.
Is there any fix on the works?

Don:
Glad to hear everything’s working for you now. If you have any more problems, feel free to use the FoggyNoggin contact form (http://FoggyNoggin.com/contact).
Josh:
Desktopple Basic was the very first version of Desktopple that I wrote. While I plan on keeping it free, I don’t plan on updating it any further. Desktopple Pro does, though, handle the Spaces and Exposé changes you mention.

Is there a way to turn off cover set? I have my system preferences to rotate through photographs on the desktop every 5 seconds. I like doing this without the icons on the screen but when DeskTopple is running, it on displays a single picture.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Hey, Don!
I have a Coverset that is set to not hide the Desktop at all. It lets you do just exactly what you need.
Thanks!

Thanks August, the only time I can get Desktopple to show a picture every 5 minutes is to show desktop.

Sorry, Don, I guess I misunderstood the question.
Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t send a notification that it’s changed the Desktop when doing an image rotation. I’ve filed a bug with Apple, but it’s doubtful they’ll do anything.
There are some hacky ways of working around that, but I tend to stay away from hacks. That said, I am exploring some options. Hopefully I can get something working. If I do, I’ll be issuing an update.

Thanks August, it’s not even an issue. I usually keep my desktop background solid and static anyway.

Hello,
Love your software. I hate to admit it but my computer desktops are usually a mess. Which is why I ended up buying Desktopple Pro. It’s easy to use and it hides my mess. It’s awesome.
I’ve recently jumped on the OSX 10.6 bandwagon and my favorite utility is no longer functional. Will there be an update soon?
Thanks for your time and for the creation of such great software for Macs.
