Frequently Asked Questions

Can Server Siren watch my mail server?

Absolutely! Any server that's accessible over a network can be watched. As long as it has an address and a TCP port, Server Siren can keep an eye on it for you.

Why does it take so long for SMS messages to arrive?

Because of network delays both on the internet as well as through your cell phone carrier, SMS messages take longer than a simple email. In addition, Server Siren uses a third party service to send those messages. In all, though, the delay is only a few minutes longer than an email.

What format should my SMS numbers be in?

While you can use some punctuation in the SMS number, the best format is simply a straight series of your 10-digit number, including your area code: 1234567890

What do I need to do to get email alerts?

Server Siren works with Apple's Mail framework. On the computer running Server Siren, you need to have Mail.app installed and at least one valid email account set up within Mail. Mail does not need to be running for email alerts to work.

Can Server Siren output a status report to the web?

Not yet, but keep an eye out for updates... ;)
